Apple Watch Band Size Guide: Which Band Fits Series 12, Ultra 4 and Every Older Model

Messina slim leather Apple Watch band with black adapters

Apple Watch bands come in two size groups. Small bands (38, 40, 41mm, plus 42mm on Series 10, 11 and 12) fit the smaller case of each generation. Large bands (42mm on Series 1 to 3, 44, 45, 46 and 49mm) fit the larger case and every Apple Watch Ultra, including Ultra 4. Your case size is engraved on the back of the watch.

That is the whole rule. The confusion comes from 42mm, which Apple has used for both a large case (Series 1 to 3) and a small one (Series 10 onward). The table below lists every Apple Watch model, its case sizes and the band size it takes, including the 2026 models: Series 12, Ultra 4 and SE 3.

Which band size fits my Apple Watch?

Apple Watch model Case sizes Small band (38-40-41-42mm) Large band (42-44-45-46-49mm)
Series 12 (2026) 42mm, 46mm 42mm 46mm
Series 11 42mm, 46mm 42mm 46mm
Series 10 42mm, 46mm 42mm 46mm
Series 9, 8, 7 41mm, 45mm 41mm 45mm
Series 6, 5, 4 40mm, 44mm 40mm 44mm

Series 3, 2, 1 38mm, 42mm 38mm 42mm
Ultra 4, Ultra 3, Ultra 2, Ultra 49mm Does not fit 49mm

Every Venito leather band is made in these two sizes. On each product page, pick 38-40-41-42mm or 42-44-45-46-49mm based on the column your watch falls in.

What does Apple say about band compatibility?

Apple's support article Change your Apple Watch band sets out the rules in its own words:

  • Bands for 38mm, 40mm and 41mm cases are compatible with each other.
  • Bands for 42mm, 44mm and 45mm cases are compatible with each other. (This 42mm is the original Series 1 to 3 size.)
  • Bands for 46mm cases are compatible with 44mm, 45mm and 46mm cases.
  • Bands for 49mm cases are compatible with 44mm, 45mm or 46mm cases, and the reverse is also true.

When Apple launched Series 10, it confirmed that older 41mm and 45mm bands work with the new 42mm and 46mm cases, and that new 42mm and 46mm bands work with older models. Series 11 and Series 12 kept the same 42mm and 46mm labels, and our small and large bands fit them the same way.

Why is 42mm in both band sizes?

Because Apple reused the number. The original Apple Watch through Series 3 came in 38mm and 42mm, so 42mm was the large watch. In 2024, Series 10 came in 42mm and 46mm, and 42mm became the small watch.

  • 42mm Series 10, 11 or 12: order the 38-40-41-42mm band.
  • 42mm Series 1, 2 or 3: order the 42-44-45-46-49mm band.

If you are not sure which generation you have, use one of the methods below before ordering.

How do I find my Apple Watch case size?

Two ways, both take under a minute:

  1. Look at the back of the watch. Take it off and read the engraving around the sensor. Apple's support page confirms the case size is part of that engraving.
  2. Check the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Open the app, tap the My Watch tab, then General > About. Tap the Model Number field until it shows a five-digit number starting with "A", then look that number up on Apple's Identify your Apple Watch page, which lists the model and case size.

What are the case sizes of Apple Watch Series 12, Ultra 4 and SE 3?

These are Apple's published dimensions for the 2026 lineup. Height is the number the case size refers to.

Model Case size Height x width x depth Venito band size
Series 12 42mm 42 x 37 x 9.7mm (aluminum and titanium) 38-40-41-42mm
Series 12 46mm 46 x 40 x 9.7mm (aluminum and titanium) 42-44-45-46-49mm
Ultra 4 49mm 49 x 44 x 12mm (titanium) 42-44-45-46-49mm
SE 3 40mm 40 x 34 x 10.7mm 38-40-41-42mm
SE 3 44mm 44 x 38 x 10.7mm 42-44-45-46-49mm

Series 12 in ceramic is 1mm taller (43mm and 47mm) and slightly deeper at 9.85mm, but it uses the same 42mm and 46mm band sizes.

How do I measure my wrist for a leather band?

Case size decides the adapter. Wrist size decides whether the strap closes comfortably. To measure:

  1. Wrap a soft tape measure, or a strip of paper, around your wrist just below the wrist bone, where the watch sits.
  2. Pull it snug but not tight, and read or mark where it overlaps.
  3. If you used paper, lay it flat against a ruler.

Every Venito Apple Watch band fits wrists from 5.5" to 8.0" (140 to 200mm), so most adults are covered by a single length. If your wrist measures over 8.0", our standard-length strap may not close comfortably, and we would rather tell you that now than have you send it back.

For comparison, Apple lists wrist ranges for the bands it sells with each watch: 130 to 200mm for the 42mm Series 12 and 140 to 245mm for the 46mm, using its own band sizes.

How tight should a leather Apple Watch band be?

Snug enough that the watch does not slide around your wrist, loose enough that you can slide a fingertip under the strap. Leather softens and molds to your wrist over the first weeks, so if you are between two holes, start on the tighter one.

Which leather band should I start with?

Once you know your size, the style is personal. The Tuscany is our classic everyday strap, the Messina is a slimmer option that suits 41mm and 42mm cases, and the Serena double wrap reads more like a bracelet. Our leather Apple Watch band guide compares all 12 styles and the four hardware colors, and the full range is in the Apple Watch bands collection.

Leather Apple Watch bands are not water resistant, so keep a sport band for workouts and swimming. Our leather care guide covers drying and conditioning, and the Triple Watch Band Leather Organizer holds three bands when you travel. Wearing a Samsung? See our Galaxy Watch leather bands.

FAQ

Do Apple Watch Series 10 bands fit Series 12?

Yes, when the size matches. Series 10, 11 and 12 all use 42mm and 46mm cases, and our small band fits the 42mm of all three while the large band fits the 46mm of all three.

Can I put a 46mm band on Apple Watch Ultra 4?

Yes. Apple states that bands for 44mm, 45mm and 46mm cases are compatible with 49mm cases, which is why our large band covers Ultra 4, Ultra 3, Ultra 2 and the original Ultra.

Will a 41mm band fit a 45mm watch?

No. Apple's compatibility rules only pair sizes within the same group, and 41mm is in the small group while 45mm is in the large one. Order the band size for your watch's group.

My watch says 42mm. Which band do I order?

Check the generation. A 42mm Series 10, 11 or 12 takes the 38-40-41-42mm band. A 42mm Series 1, 2 or 3 takes the 42-44-45-46-49mm band. The Apple Watch app on your iPhone shows which model you have.

Read the engraving on the back of your watch, find your row in the first table, and order that band size. If you are still unsure, email support@venito.com with your watch model and we will confirm the size before you order.
