How a new piece gets here
A new design starts as a paper pattern, becomes a leather sample, and then gets carried around by whoever made it for a few weeks before anything is cut in quantity.
Most of what gets rejected fails at that stage, usually for something small: a pocket that is a centimetre too shallow, a flap that will not stay shut in a bag. What reaches this page has already survived that.
New phones come first
The busiest weeks of the year are the ones after Apple and Samsung announce a new phone, because every existing pattern has to be recut around a new camera housing.
We cut to the phone rather than to published drawings, which costs a little time at launch and avoids the fit problems that come from working off a rumoured measurement. If your new phone is not here yet, it usually is within a few weeks of release.
Small runs
New designs are cut in short runs while we find out whether people want them. That has two consequences worth knowing.
The first is that a new piece can sell out quickly and take a few weeks to return. The second is that colour ranges start narrow and widen later, so a shade missing today is not necessarily a shade we are not making.
What to expect from a new pattern
A newly cut case is tighter than one that has been in production for a year. The leather has not relaxed and the fit can feel firm for the first few days, particularly on snap-on shells.
That is intended. A case that slips on easily on day one is a case that falls off in month six. Work it on from one corner rather than pressing the middle, and it settles within a week.
Common questions
Is the leather different on the new designs? No. Same hides, same tannery. What changes is the pattern.
Can I ask for a case for a phone you do not cover yet? Yes, and it is worth doing. Requests are part of how we decide what to cut next.
Do new pieces get discounted later? Rarely. Prices track the cost of the hide rather than the age of the design.
If nothing here fits your phone yet, it is worth checking back rather than assuming we have skipped it. New patterns land on this page first and move into the device pages a few days later, so this is usually where a newly cut case appears before anywhere else on the site.
