Galaxy Z Flip Series
Handmade full-grain leather cases for the Galaxy Z Flip 4, 5, 6 and 7, cut in two halves so the phone still closes flat.
Cases for the Galaxy Z Flip
A folding phone takes a two piece case, one shell on each half, and both halves have to stop short of the hinge. Too much material near the fold and the phone will not close flat. Lucca is cut that way for the Z Flip 4, 5, 6 and 7.
The cover screen stays uncovered, so you can still read a notification without opening the phone.
Which Flip you have
- Z Flip 4 and Z Flip 5: 6.7 inch main screen, different cover screens
- Z Flip 6: same footprint as the 5 with a revised camera housing
- Z Flip 7: the newest body on this page
The cover screen grew across these generations, so the cutout on a Flip 4 case will not line up on a Flip 6.
Why leather suits a Flip
A Flip gets opened and shut dozens of times a day, which is more handling than any other phone shape gets. Full-grain leather takes that well. The two shells darken at slightly different rates because one half spends more time under your thumb, and after a few months the phone looks like something you have owned rather than something you bought.
Living with a two piece case
Both halves clip on separately and neither crosses the hinge, so the phone still folds shut without a gap. Nothing needs to be removed to charge, and wireless charging works through the leather.
The leather adds enough thickness to make the phone easier to open one handed, which is the part most Flip owners notice first.
Materials
Full-grain cowhide with a suede lining, stitched along the edge. It marks where you handle it and darkens over months, which on a folding phone means the two halves end up slightly different shades.
Initials can be engraved for 18.90 dollars, chosen on the product page.
Common questions
Does the phone still close flat? Yes. Neither half of the case crosses the hinge, which is what causes a gap on cheaper folding cases.
Is the cover screen usable? Yes, the cutout leaves it open.
Will a Flip 5 case fit a Flip 6? No. The cover screen and the camera housing both changed.
Does wireless charging work? Yes, through the leather.
One practical note on the Flip. The cover screen is what you use most while the phone is shut, so the front panel of the case is cut back to leave it clear. Anything that covers it turns a Flip into a phone you have to open just to check the time.
